Evidence of Climate Change: The Great Salt Puddle
In my short lifetime, I have seen the following before and after occur: As evident by the dates attached to these satellite images, the Great Salt Lake's water level has retreated significantly in recent years. According to Kacey Deamer of livescience.com, this is because of drought, and over irrigation. I grew up just East of the Island, so the change has been seemingly gradual for me, until viewing images such as the ones above. For me this is not cause for concern because I appreciated the view, but because this climate change will dramatically change the habitat of wildlife in Davis County. The Island is now accessible by foot, though I'd rather not get muddy. Multitudes of species of birds and other wildlife rely on Farmington Bay (the dried up region) of the lake each year as a temporary home during their migratory patterns.
